My Story

Ms Carmen

Owner, Stylist

I’m a fifth-generation afro-American woman carrying on the legacy of the family business. My mother, Cleaster Terry, established Pretty Girl in 1969. I received my cosmetology license in 1977 and worked alongside my mother for several years before moving to Mississippi in 1991. I returned to California in 2004 to help with my ailing mother and to help run the business. The last couple of years have not been easy, but I’ve managed to renovate the shop in order to bring it up to COVID-19 safety requirements and give it a more modern look. When you visit the salon now, you will say ‘wow!’.
